Dress Rehearsal- Peter Pan at The House of Yes

Having been focused solely on the production of a PhD thesis for the past few months, I'm woefully behind in posting photographs from dress rehearsals, performances and events. Now that I am less than 24hours from moving out of the apartment I've lived in for the past five years, it seems like the perfect time to procrastin-post. (Edited to add: so much so that it's now a week since I moved house - sigh.)

Somewhere in the midst of writing the fourth chapter of my 300+ page thesis, an amazing show happened at Sky Box - Peter Pan. Even though I couldn't make a true performance, I was able to sneak in to the dress rehearsal. It was amazing. Anya and Elena's performance on trapeze was heart stopping and mesmerizing and humbling all at the same time. So much strength, grace and fearlessness, a characteristic of the whole show.

Survival of the Fittest - The Ladies

As promised, the ladies of the House of Yes February Variety Show.

Juantia and Francis were hysterical a WWE wrestlers, flying high above my head in a homoerotic spectacular.

Anya performed under black light on a dream catcher designed by Flambeaux. The lighting was stunning but tricky to capture. Things got a little... blurry.

Jennifer is one of my favourite performers to photograph, she's just so stunning.

Survival of the Fittest - The Men

This month's variety show at the House of Yes centered around the theme of evolution, so it was only fitting that it was hosted by Charles Darwin.

Less obvious to the British scientists in the audience (there may only have been one), was the participation of Flava Flav, but then again, the evolution section of the Biology GRE was my weakest...

One of my favourite acts from the show was performed by Rob Roth as his "shadow-self" Craig, a haunting and spell-binding solo of a wolf-creature.

As usual, all of my photographs were taken as unobtrusively as possible from the audience without flash, and this time due to a different stage configuration I was able to take pictures from up close (/noses) and personal. I'm pretty sure that's a magician's worst nightmare, but it made for some dramatic shots of The Great Dubini.

Confession time - there were a couple of acts this show that had me cowering in my seat. The first because I really was afraid of getting hurt (no pictures of that one, because a) she's a lady and b) I was too busy covering my eyes for fear of losing one to a rebounding arrow... not one of the best thought-out acts I've ever seen). And the second because this guy was blowing fireballs over my head.

Valentine's Day Massacre in Bushwick

Another week, another variety show at The House of Yes. It used to be that there would only be a couple of folks in audience with cameras but recently something happened and boom, ten guys dressed in black most definitely outgunning me in the equipment department. Read as many double entendres into that as you like. But I'm not really intimidated, I'll just keep clicking away, editing and posting!

Some of the pictures below might be NSFW due to pastie covered breasts in motion, and occasionally on fire.
